Welcome to the Alger Learning Center and Independence High School
Enthusiastically supporting homeschooling, unschooling, and creativity in learning since 1981.
The Alger Learning Center and Independence High School was founded in 1981 to provide students with creative educational alternatives while empowering them to take charge of their own lives and learning.
Our educational philosophy is grounded in the belief that learning is an ongoing, lifelong experience. We strongly believe that students deserve trust and the basic freedom to make choices, to put ideas into action, and to grow and learn according to their own learning style(s) and goals. Our services include:
* Global Distance Learning
* Individualized, self-paced curriculum
* Official transcripts/diplomas
* Record-keeping services
* Enthusiastic homeschool assistance
* Custom homeschool curriculum
* Unschooling recognition and support
* Adult high school completion
* Online learning options
* On-site tutoring services
* Satellite school partnership program
We offer a local assisted learning program, national and international distance learning programs, homeschooling and unschooling assistance, and a homeschool / unschool “umbrella” program for homeschooling families who seek validation of their work. We also offer annual assessments (both standardized and informal), on-site tutoring, and an innovative experience-based adult high school completion program. Through our Satellite School program, we help educators set up and administer their own affiliate schools around the world.
The Alger Learning Center and Independence High School is a Washington State approved and nationally accredited independent school serving students in grades K-12 and adult learners.
The Alger Learning Center and Independence High School is a student-centered school focusing on individualized education. Unlike many schools, we have chosen not to be obsessed with the unethical practice of "teaching to the test." The Alger Learning Center and Independence High School is proud to be a WASL-free zone.
