A Letter from the Director Welcome to the home pages of the Alger Learning Center and Independence High School. We are a nationally accredited and Washington State approved private school serving grades K through 12. We issue official Washington State transcripts and high school diplomas to students who have successfully completed the state requirements for graduation. For the past 25 years, we have been affording students the opportunity to experience unbridled learning and freedom in education. We offer a program that is designed to foster self-direction, self-motivation, and self-esteem. As a noncurriculum-based, student-centered school, we want you to have full involvement in defining and achieving your personal educational goals. It is our sincere hope that you will find these pages useful and enlightening, and that you will find that one of our programs (local and distance learning programs for independent learners and homeschooling / unschooling families, along with a new program for teachers who want to start their own schools through our Satellite School program) will serve your needs.
