JOINT OPERATING AND RESPONSIBILITIES AGREEMENT
The Satellite School
teacher(s)/administrator(s) named below and The Alger Learning
Cen-ter/Independence High School hereby agree: to
follow all Washington State guidelines pertaining to education; to support the
aims and ideals of the Alger Learning Center by encouraging self-directed learning through
student-centered, independent approaches; and to acknowledge and validate the
roles of freedom, creativity, and spontaneity in education, thus allowing
students to develop the skills that will give them the self-confidence,
self-reliance, and self-esteem to become successful, lifetime, independent
learners.
The Satellite School and its
teacher(s) and administrators agree to:
* Provide
their professional services in a way that is sensitive to students’ academic
needs, goals, interests, and to their self-esteem, and to always represent the
Alger Learning Center/ Independence High School in a way that enhances the
integrity of its educational services;
* Assist
students in the designing, monitoring, and evaluating of learning contracts
that are equivalent to Washington State requirements;
* Provide
tutoring and resources as needed;
* Contract
with a minimum of 5 students;
* Meet with
each student on a one-to-one basis a minimum of 4 hours monthly [Note: the monthly hours may be averaged
to accommodate students’ situations, for example, those traveling globally,
students with fulltime jobs, students with medical considerations, etc.];
* Keep
accurate records of time and progress, and submit to the Alger Learning Center/
Independence High School all monthly progress reports, monthly teacher contact
hour reports, and monthly student time reports, along with student course
descriptions and/or transcripts as issued;
* Maintain
valid teacher certifications in the state in which they reside/teach, submit a
copy of the current teachers’ certificates or other credentials, and keep the
Alger Learning Center/ Independence High School informed of any change in
their status, or provide evidence of
alter-native credentials or experience;
* See that
parents/guardians submit Intent to Homeschool forms to their local school
districts, or otherwise conform to whichever specific state laws may apply;
* Have a
parent conference at least once a month to keep the parents informed of their
child's progress;
* Not
discriminate against any student for any reason;
* Be willing
to submit to a police background check if necessary;
* Be
responsible for withholding and paying their own federal and state income tax;
* Collect and
remit to the Alger Learning Center/Independence High School a one-time
$____
enrollment fee and $____ per month tuition fee (payable in advance), for
each
student enrolled in the Satellite program, and a graduation fee of $_____
for each
student receiving an official Washington State high school diploma from
Independence High School, as well as a one time
graduation fee of $_____ at the end of their
enrollment;
* Pay a one-time
startup fee of $___________;
The Satellite School understands and
agrees that students who are over 60 days behind in enrollment fees will be
considered inactive, and that no transcripts or diplomas will be issued until
all past due fees have been paid in full.
The Alger Learning Center/Independence
High School agrees to:
*
Provide its professional services to Satellite School teachers and
administrators in assisting students achieve their academic goals, validating
academic achievements of students enrolled in the Satellite School, and issuing
Washington State approved transcripts and high school diplomas when the necessary
requirements have been met;
* Assist
Satellite School directors, administrators, and teachers by consulting and
offering models for designing, monitoring, and evaluating learning contracts
that are equivalent to Washington State requirements;
* Provide
detailed information about and suggested curriculum for the 19 credits upon
which official Washington State high school graduation is based;
* Keep copies
of records of time and progress, as submitted to the Alger Learning Center/
Independence High School by the Satellite School, along with monthly progress
reports, monthly teacher contact hour reports, and monthly student time
reports, as well as student course grades and transcripts as issued;
* Maintain
and provide documentation of its state-approved private school status and
inform the Satellite School in the event of any change in that status;
* Not
discriminate against any student for any reason;
* Provide
receipts for fees paid by each student, including enrollment, monthly tuition,
and graduation fees, as applicable (we reserve the right to consider inactive
any student who is over 60 days behind in enrollment, tuition, or other fees,
and to withhold the transcripts, diplomas, and other records of said student
until all past due accounts have been satisfied).
The below parties agree to terms of
this joint operating agreement.
